Route type: Circular

Difficulty level: Moderate

Waze to start point: Little Switzerland Parking Lot

Notes:

  • Start early to beat the heat.
  • Do not hike here if there are flood warnings in the area! If you are not sure, ask a more experienced hiker or check the Israel Meteorological Service website.

With the exception of a couple of water hikes, we have been forced to take quite the hiatus from our hikes due to unusually hot temps over the summer. However, I had to be in Haifa on Friday, a city (including its surroundings) which I do not know at all.

I decided it would be madness to drive straight home without doing something – even something blink-and-you’ll-miss-it short. Guys! I gotta take what I can get!

Even though it was the hottest part of the day, I did the Little Switzerland treklette. There isn’t a lot to say about it except that there is some boulder climbing (ascent of 53 meters) on the way out which is why I rated the difficulty level moderate.

I started down on the red trail.

In the vicinity of the parking lot there were a lot of picnic tables in the shade.

At one point I caught a glimpse of the Mediterranean through the trees.

The trail was alternately shaded and exposed.

In the cliff face opposite were some interesting rock formations.

Just before I began the 53 meters of boulder scrambling to get up and out and complete the loop, these beautiful tree roots caught my eye.

The green trail breaks away to the left from the red and you begin your climb/return to the start point.
