Excited to be finishing the 5th and last section of the 140 km Meggido Trail (you can read about Section 4 here), four of us began walking at 7:30 a.m. on a bright, sunny winter morning.

The trail started out with a short ascent through the trees.

Reaching a crossroads and a paved path where we could already hear the babbling of Nahal HaShofet, we made a right. The creek is the gem of the Meggido Trail and has recently undergone extensive reconstruction after severe flooding which you can read about here. This rennovated and very civilized section of the Meggido Trail is only about 1 km long. There is a paved path alongside the creek with several shallow pools and numerous benches that invite one to linger.

After enjoying the beauty of this section of the trail, we continued on our way, following the purple trail marking out into a stunning, fresh green field.

The trail kept criss-crossing the creek. At one point the paved road was slightly submerged. Nothing a few stepping stones couldn’t assist with!

Just before reaching another place where the creek, which was just a trickle at this point, had to be forded, there was an interesting stand of tall palm trees, too perfectly aligned to have been there naturally. I wonder who planted them and when and why?

Everything was SO green – a novelty for us. We revel in every minute of spring’s beauty.

The variety of flowers in bloom after recent rains never ceases to astonish, particularly the anemones in shades of red, white and purple.

Further along at the top of a hill, we passed a rustic seating area under a tree. On the bench someone painted the words “Look always for the good.”

Traversing more beautiful greenness, the trail brought us up to Kibbutz Ramat HaShofet and Road 6954. The road had to be crossed carefully! On the other side was a paved path that took us back to the car and our end point.

We finished around noon with ample time for a coffee stop at Aroma as per usual, the nearest one being at the mall in Yokneam.

TA-DA! The Meggido Trail has been COMPLETED!

To sum up, the Meggido Trail is located in gently rolling terrain. No extremes in elevations, no ladders or handholds that need to be navigated. It is a loop trail so you can begin it wherever on the loop you like and divide it up into as many sections as suit you. There are a number of springs and creeks along the trail that afford opportunities for rest and cooling off. Best done in the spring.
